I'm definitely not an EE-type, but this makes me think there'd be a way to modify the QX5252 based circuit to fool it into thinking the battery isn't dead.ДЇor background, I'm looking into making a set of lights to help people find recycling stations at night at a festival (Oregon Country Fair ). I can't always make it happen, but something about touching the LED lead will make the light go back on and stay on for several minutes. It then stays on for several minutes before going back off again. Interestingly, I can make them turn on for a few minutes simply by touching a bare wire to one of the LED leads. I came back in a few days to find all my lights off - because the batteries had drained to 0.8v or so. I actually discovered this when I made a few circuits with the 5252 using old dead AAs (non rechargeable). One based on the QX5252 will just shut off when it gets to 0.8. A 'traditional' Joule Thief will run for ages, taking the battery to almost nothing. Which is great if you're using rechargeable and don't want to over-drain the battery.Д«ut which sucks if you're actually interested in lighting an LED and draining an old non-rechargeable AA down to nothing ala a Joule Thief. One other feature is that it will automatically shut off if the battery goes below about 0.8v. It controls charging, turns on the LED when the solar cell's output is low, and lets a single 1.5v battery run the LED.
